Medicine, pathology, peds ranks swell with new faculty

The Medical Center is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Kristen Adams, M.D.

Dr. Kristen Adams, a recent graduate of anatomic and clinical pathology at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in pathology.

After receiving her B.S. in pre-medical cum laude from Mississippi College, Adams earned her M.D. in 2012 at UMMC, where she has completed residency in anatomical and clinical pathology from 2012-17 and surgical pathology fellowship from 2015-16. She served as chief resident from 2015-16.

The author or coauthor of 12 peer-reviewed publications and abstracts, Adams has given 15 formal scientific presentations at UMMC. She is a collaborator on multiple research projects with her peers on campus and at the UMMC Cancer Institute. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the United States & Canadian Academy of Pathology, the College of American Pathologists and the American Society for Clinical Pathology. She is actively involved in a range of activities at the Medical Center, including teaching medical, dental and graduate students and fellow residents and post-sophomore fellows in pathology. Her medical expertise is focused in congenital cardiac pathology, perinatal and adult autopsy and placental pathology. In addition to teaching, she will be practicing general surgical pathology and supervising autopsies at UMMC.

Sandeep Arya, M.D.

Dr. Sandeep Arya, a recent cardiac critical care medicine fellow at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics.

After receiving his M.B.B.S. from Baroda Medical College, Maharaja Sayajirao University, Gujarat, India, in 2007, Arya served as a pathology instructor at Nanchang University, Jiangxi, China from 2008-09 and as a pediatric teaching assistant at Xiamen University, China, in 2010. He had a pediatrics residency from 2010-13 at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, Bronx, New York; a pediatric critical care medicine fellowship from 2013-16 at Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri; and the cardiac critical care medicine fellowship from 2016-17.

An active member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics, Arya has authored or coauthored five articles in refereed journals. His research interests include comparison of near infrared spectroscopy with capillary refill time in predicting Sv02 and the relative impact of high risk unscheduled transfers to the pediatric intensive care unit.  

Pradeep Bathina, M.B.B.S.

Dr. Pradeep Bathina, a hospitalist with Promedica Physician Hospitalists, Toledo Hospital, Ohio, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of internal medicine.

He received his M.B.B.S. from Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada, AP, India in 2007. He then had a residency in internal medicine at the Central Michigan University College of Medicine, Saginaw, from 2012-15. He has served as a hospitalist in Toledo since 2015. He also served as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Toledo since 2016.

The author or coauthor of eight articles in peer-reviewed journals and eight posters displayed at scientific meetings, Bathina has research experience in internal medicine, infectious diseases and pulmonary medicine.
